Build Your Life on the Rock.

These are the last words Jesus spoke in the Sermon on the Mount.

"Everyone who hears these words of mine and acts on them may be compared to a wise man who built his house on solid rock. And the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and slammed against that house, and yet it did not fall for it was founded on the rock."

"Everyone who hears these words of mind and does not act on them will be like a foolish man who built his house on sand. And the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and slammed against that house, and it fell; and great was the fall of it."

"When the crowds heard it, they were amazed at his teaching because he taught with great authority, unlike their teachers of the law." Matthew 7:24-29

Where I grew up in California, there used to be torrential rains that would come maybe once or twice a year. The cities built cement culverts to catch the rivers of waters that would flood the towns. We once lived in a house by a small stream. The year after we moved out the rains came, the stream swelled into a river and the house was gone. This also happened in the area where Jesus lived so the people there could relate to his story of the two houses.

Jesus is the rock on which to build the foundation of our life. If we do this we will be safe from any storm that hits us. The storms of life can be hard to bear: the death of a loved one, divorce, abuse from someone we love, friends who betray us, children who turn to drugs...so many things can happen to us in this life, but with Jesus as our foundation we can weather the storm. He will be our strength and guide.

To rely on people or this world is trusting in shifting sand. It cannot hold us up, it moves beneath our feet, it slides between our fingers. Build your life on Jesus. He will never let you down.

Very true. Praise God for that! He is our Strong Anchor - staying strong and true in the storm.
